Out of Site examines how visual technologies, artistic interventions, and the workings of state power have evolved in tandem with the Western landscape. Work from David Maisel’s Proving Ground series are featured, including KYDOIMOS: The Din of Battle, a video composed of 50,000 still aerial images of weapons testing sites. The flickering images in KYDOIMOS depict where chemical and biological weapons and their facsimiles are detonated, turning this landscape into a measure device against which dispersal rates, toxicity levels, and threats to the human body are measured. Maisel’s work is also featured on the cover of the accompanying catalogue.
